A full Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre crowned a day of celebrations and official functions to mark the Archdiocese of Brisbane’s 150th anniversary on July 30, 2009. 29 Bishops, representing a majority of Australian dioceses as well as the Maronite, Melkite and Ukrainian eparchies, were present for the Mass held in the evening. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin from Dublin preached the Homily.
At a special schools event in the morning over 3000 student representatives from the 133 Brisbane Catholic Education schools and all Religious Institute schools also celebrated the milestone.
